Didactic Literature - Literature that instructs. Authors tell stories on how to liva a moral life. These stories are important because the encourage people to act a certain way.
Maxim - A general statement on human behavior that tells you what to do and what not to do.
Anecdote - Brief story that focuses on a single event and teaches a particular truth.
Parable - Longer than an anecdote but designed to point out a specific behavior or truth.
